History of Pakistan Aspirin Foundation

The idea to form the Pakistan Aspirin Foundation was conceived by Mr. Ishtiaqur Rehman in 1997 while he was affiliated with Reckitt & Coleman Pharmaceuticals as Marketing Director. Formal discussions started among a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals during August 1997.Initial work was carried out by Dr. K. A. Abbasi and Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid. Constitution and Byelaws of the Foundation were drafted and discussed among founder members before applying for registration. Pakistan Aspirin Foundation got registered with Government of Sindh vide letter dated March 21st 1998 No. SO-11/IAMD/14-6-98..The first meeting of the Foundation was held at Karachi on April 18^th 1998. Prof. Mahmood Ali Malik from Lahore was unanimously elected as the Founder President

To begin with the founder members included Prof. Mahmood Ali Malik and Prof. Mumtaz Hasan from Lahore, Prof. Abdus Samad, Dr. Maqbool H. Jafary, Mr. Lateef Sheikh, Dr. M. Ishaq, Prof Ejaz Ahmad Vohra, Mr. Ishtiaq- ur- Rehman, Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid and Mr. Qamar -uz - Zaman all from Karachi, Prof. Saad Rana from Islamabad, Dr. Sher M. Khan from Peshawar and  Dr. Ashur Khan from Rawalpindi. Later on Prof. Mahmood Raza from Quetta, Prof. Javed Akram from Lahore and Mr. Aminul Haque from Karachi were also inducted as founder members.

At a meeting of the Executive Council held at Swat in February 2000, it was decided that all the consultants founder members will pay a one time contribution of Rs. 10,000/- It was also resolved to induct more life members from the healthcare professionals as well as from the industry. Doctors will have to pay one time contribution of Rs.10, 000/- while those from the industry will pay a one-time contribution of Rs.15, 000/-. Since then many new  life members have been enrolled. The membership   funds it was also resolved will not be used for day-to-day activities. Instead they will be invested in some profit-generating scheme of in fixed deposit. M/s Reckitt and Coleman Pharmaceuticals extended valuable help and assistance by sponsoring all the activities of Pakistan Aspirin Foundation for almost two years.
